Храм Покрова Пресвятой Богородицы (Рочестер)

The Protection of the Mother of God parish, in Rochester New York, was established by Russian Orthodox exiles displaced from their homeland by the Second World War. Divine services were first held in rented space in 1947. In 1952, a home on East Avenue in Rochester was purchased and converted into a church. At that time, the parish was formally incorporated as well. The church on East Avenue served as our parish home and the priest’s residence for 50 years.

In October 2002 we held our first services in our new church. Our new church is located near Rochester, in the town of Brighton, in a beautiful, peaceful, residential area. The new structure is a traditional Russian Orthodox church using the finest examples of northern Russian architecture.

Currently our parish is a combination of emigrants from the former Russian empire, their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, as well as a growing number of American born converts to Orthodoxy.

Whether you currently attend an Orthodox parish, or you would like to know more about the Orthodox faith, we welcome you to join us in worship next Sunday (schedule of services, directions to our parish) or to contact us.
