Greetings in the Almighty Lord!
Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Bluff City, Tennessee is under the authority and protection of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. We are spiritually supervised by His Eminence Metropolitan Alexios of Atlanta and ultimately, the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople. Our parish here in the Tri-Cities belongs to the larger Christian communion known as the Eastern Orthodox Church. The Eastern Orthodox Church is currently the second largest Christian church in the world with 250-300 million members and is the very same  body of believers which was born at the outpouring of the Holy Spirit on the Day of Pentecost in 33 A.D. We are not another «denomination» but rather, the original form of Christianity that existed for over  1500 years prior to the establishment of denominations. Historically, Orthodox Christianity has its origins in the ancient Christian centers of Rome, Constantinople, Alexandria, Antioch, and Jerusalem. Most basic tenets of Christianity common to Roman Catholics, Protestants and Orthodox Christians, such as the belief in the Holy Trinity, the Virgin-Birth, and the nature of Christ, were defended and articulated in these communities. Moreover, this community of churches collected and canonized the writings which became our New Testament. Around 1100 years ago, Orthodox Christianity spread into what is today Russia, the Ukraine, Serbia, and Bulgaria, and continues to be the predominate form of Christianity in Eastern and Southern Europe and the Middle-East. In 1054 A.D., the Church of Rome separated from the other four ancient Orthodox Churches to eventually become the Roman Catholic Church that exists today.  Starting in the 1500s, the literally thousands of Protestant denominations which exist today were created partially in response to perceived abuses in the Church in Rome.

Eastern Orthodoxy arrived on American shores during the 1700 and 1800s starting with the colonization of Alaska by the Russians and the immigration of Greeks, Ukrainians, Serbians, Romanians, Syrians, Lebanese, Bulgarians, etc., to cities in the Eastern and Southeastern United States. Today, the Orthodox Church continues to flourish and spread throughout our nation. However, it is no longer the faith of only Greeks, Russians, or others of traditional Orthodox descent. Increasingly, people of all backgrounds are entering the Orthodox Church. In fact, on any given Sunday morning at our parish here in Upper East Tennessee, one may witness people of Greek, English, Scots-Irish, Ethiopian, Albanian, Georgian, Bulgarian, or German descent worshiping Jesus Christ together. The Eastern Orthodox Church has continued to preserve and protect the faith «once delivered.»  She has neither added nor subtracted from the tenets of historic Christianity. We Orthodox Christians have been baptized in the name of the Holy Trinity and follow the ideals and beliefs of both the Holy Scriptures and the oral traditions of the ancient church. We believe in a living and loving God whose grace protects and guides us on the path of redemption and salvation. We believe that God has revealed Himself  through His Prophets and especially in the Person of Jesus Christ, His only-begotten Son, our Savior. If you are searching for an enduring and unchanging community of believers in the face of uncertainty, theological compromise, or the spiritual emptiness of modern life, then I invite you and your family to come and worship with us. Come and experience the wonder and beauty of an authentic life lived in Jesus Christ and His Holy Church!
