Parish History

In 1928, people sharing the Eastern Orthodox faith gathered to worship in a second story hall of the Bennett building, presently the site of Sears & Roebuck (in 1999, this site became part of the development of the riverfront). The first spiritual leader was Fr. E. Sakellarides. There was also a Greek school which held classes daily. In 1931, the church purchased property at Maple and Reed streets. In 1932, Fr. John Panos came to serve the parish, but only for a year. Frs. Photios Porchides, George Evrotas, Morkides, and Spillotes, served the parish for brief periods until 1937, when Fr. Efstathios Gioumpakes arrived. He served the All Saints community until 1952, when he retired due to failing health. Fr. Spyridon Economou assumed the pastorate for two years.

He was succeeded by Fr. Ernest (Anastasios) Arambiges, who was the first American born graduate of the Holy Cross Greek Orthodox seminary, to serve the parish, along with his Presbytera Maria. In 1955, the parish established a building fund, and the current site of our parish was purchased in 1960. The last Divine Liturgy at the old site (Maple and Reed St.) was celebrated on October 28, 1962. For the next two years, the Church held services at the YMCA.
In November of 1963, the official groundbreaking for the present Church was held, along with the laying of the cornerstone. On Christmas of 1964, the first Liturgy was held in the new church in the lower level. The first Liturgy was held upstairs, in our Sanctuary, on April 11, 1965. In 1972, following the transfer of Fr. Ernest, Fr. Theodore Filandrinos arrived to serve the community of All Saints. Following twenty-five years of service to the parish, Fr. Theodore retired in August of 1997. Fr. Michael Condos arrived in September of 1997. In April 2003, Fr. John Sardis resumed parish responsibilities. The parish currently serves about 140 families.
